- This is an excellent demonstration DVD of the basic techniques needed to
- learn tabla. In this DVD, Aloke demonstrates all the major techniques
- through a variety of phrases and shows how to modify fingering to achieve a
- higher speed. He also plays different rhythm patterns, such as five, six,
- seven, eight, and nine, using the same phrase. At the end of the tape he
- demonstrates individual sounds.
- He has suggested in the insert that students should use this DVD as a
- dictionary. Once the knowledge of producing a syllable or a phrase is
- absorbed from the tape, students then should apply this to compositions.
